| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit takes an investigative approach and introduces the concept of creativity as applied to textiles. It focuses on design, research, technology and experimental approaches to textiles. This unit develops personal creativity when processing visual ideas into design work and samples through the use of appropriate creative textile techniques. The unit allows the students to work creatively with different textiles, paints, dyes and other materials to create a final project. Study-Unit Aims: The unit aims to offer students the opportunity of being creative when using textiles It introduces them to the most common methods of fabric embellishment. It also aims at making the students aware of safety and environmental issues when dealing with materials such as dyes, paints, ironing and fabric. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Revise the principles involved in the 'design and make' process; - Analyse situations where aspects of design are used to satisfy various human needs; - After online and observational research, list and describe ways of embellishment involved in textile projects; - Explain how to dye fabrics and create fabrics designs using different methods of dyeing based on practice; - Distinguish between the different methods of Tying fabrics for Tie and Dye through simulation. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Use investigative procedures during the formulation of creativity promoting activities related to Textiles Technology; - Create items using different methods of fabric embellishment; - Present a sample of an extended 'design and make' project.
